Fabio Herrera
“Being a painter, to be an artist, means to be a free person, one who has the option of offering other people their world, their inner world and their interpretation of the cosmos; one who can achieve integration through a painting of the world outside with its internal world.”
Fabio Herrera, born in San Jose, studied at the school for fine art at the Universidad de Costa Rica, and has had international exhibitions in Spain, Mexico, Sweden and the United States. With over 100 solo exhibits and hundreds of collective exhibits, Herrera is cited in over 80 books. He more than 20 awards include numerous Aquileo J. Echeverria prizes. He pulls from a vast panorama of inspiration, landscapes, life, people, and the history of art. “We have a very rich past in the creation that our ancestors did and we also have a very varied landscape, with animals, volcanoes, seas, and many other things,” says Herrera.
