Mario Maffioli
“Art is for me life. Art is the best thing that human beings have and represents the most important values of what it means to be a good human being.”
Fifty-nine year old Mario Maffioli, born in San Jose, is an accomplished and award-winning Costa Rican painter. “I am a happy painter to live in the tropics and discover day-by-day light, color, biodiversity, and above all the reliability and tranquility of my country,” says Maffioli. “My painting is focused on discovering aspects of nature that we consider fundamental in the beginning of the creation of abstract art.”
Maffioli has shown his work internationally, participated in many solo exhibitions in Central America and is in private collections. He is a founding member of Bocaraca Group. His paintings are an abstract exploration of the natural environment of the tropics where he lives. The evolution of his work is aimed at discovering his environment, his community, his society and his family.
“Art in Costa Rica evolves rapidly in all aspects in a very contemporary way, in a traditional way, but always focused on studying our way of thinking, and our landscapes and our wonderful nature.”
