Vanja Subotic was born in Vukovar, the former Yugoslavia. Currently she lives and work in Subotica, Serbia. The starting point of her work is based on feelings of inner self in different contexts and a desire of self exploration through different media and artistic techniques.

“My work commences as a translation process of personal experiences observed from a distant and objective perspective with an aim of finding a place and meaning in a wider collective space,” shares Vanja.

She has set up an artistic process in which the essence of what is painted is in its ephemeral elements, built independently of the external world, in the creative action of painting. During the process, the aesthetic problems that appear are solved, bringing the experience that is applicable in the external world. The painting is the both-independent aesthetic whole and an active basis of information which can influence observers experience and provoke further action.

Vanja started exhibiting in 2000 and has participated in countless formal and informal exhibitions.
